The Congo River, Contrasts and Similarities of Form in Central African Arts - exhibition

The Quai Branly Museum's special exhibition this summer will explore the artistic traditions of the regions bordering the Congo river in Central Africa, namely Gabon, the Republic of the Congo, and neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo.Through 170 major works and 80 documents this Congo River exhibition is a real journey of discovery: from the forests of the north to the savannahs of the south the exhibition examines the links between the works of art produced in the regions bordering this majestic river, by diverse Bantu language populations. Behind the variety of masks and Fang, Hemba, Kweli and Kota sculptures, the exhibition highlights the major works of Central Africa, examining their design, structure and the artistic links which exist between them.
